Privacy Policy

What this site collects, what it deliberately does not collect, and the choices you have over the advertising.

Effective October 4, 2026 Applies to Counsel and the OMC network

The short version

There is no account to create on this site, no form to fill in, no comment thread and no newsletter. You do not hand over any personal information in order to read anything here, because there is nowhere to type it.

  • We do not sell or share your personal information.
  • We run no analytics service of our own, no social plugins and no tracking pixels.
  • The advertising on these pages is served by Google AdSense, which uses cookies. That is set out in full below, with the opt-out links.
  • The only thing our pages store in your browser is your light or dark theme choice, and it never reaches us.
In practice

The only personal data this network ever holds about a reader is an email that reader chose to send us.

Who is responsible

This policy covers Counsel, published at law.omc.center, and every other site published by Omni Mundi Compendium.

The publisher is Omni Mundi Compendium, an independent English-language publication written for readers in the United States. It is not affiliated with any government agency, insurer, law firm or financial institution. For any privacy question or request, write to editor@omc.center.

Today that means Counsel (law.omc.center), Shield (insurance.omc.center), Ledger (finance.omc.center), Playtest (game.omc.center). Sites still to come — Mind, Inquiry, Cosmos, Vitals, Archive, Byte, Nest — will publish under the same policy from their first day.

What we do not collect

So that there is no ambiguity about it, none of the following happens on this network:

  • No account registration — there is no login, so there are no credentials, profiles or password resets.
  • No names, postal addresses or phone numbers are requested, and no payment details are taken anywhere on the site.
  • No comments, reviews or user submissions are accepted or stored.
  • No precise location or device identifiers are requested.
  • No email address is collected — unless you choose to write to us first, in which case we have the address you wrote from and the content of your message.

If a feature that collects something is ever added — a newsletter, a comment thread — this page will describe it, and it will change before that feature ships rather than after.

What is recorded automatically

Serving a web page leaves a trace at the server even when the visitor does nothing. Our hosting provider records ordinary request data: the IP address a request came from, the browser user-agent string, the URL requested, the time, and the response status. This is standard web-server logging kept for security and abuse prevention — rate limiting, blocking scrapers and attacks — not for building a profile of you, and it is not combined with any other information.

We have no access to the advertising data that Google collects, and no control over it. That is the subject of the next section.

Advertising and Google cookies

This site is supported by advertising, and the ads are served by Google AdSense. Because AdSense is the advertising system, the following disclosures apply to these pages:

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
  • You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. Alternatively, you can opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info.
  • If you have not opted out of third-party ad serving, cookies from other third-party vendors or ad networks may also be used to serve ads on this site. Where that applies, you can review the vendors and opt out through the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out tool or the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out page.

Opting out does not remove advertising. It means the ads you see are not selected on the basis of your browsing history; contextual ads still appear. Google describes what it collects and why in How Google uses cookies and the Google Privacy Policy.

We do not sell advertising ourselves. We do not select individual advertisers, we do not receive your browsing data from Google, and advertisers have no influence over what we publish — see the editorial policy for how that separation is maintained.

Cookies and browser storage, itemised

Set byWhat it doesHow long it lasts
Google (advertising)Serves the ads on these pages, limits how often the same ad repeats, measures performance, and personalizes ads where you have not opted out.Controlled by Google; see Google's cookie documentation for current durations.
This site (theme only)Remembers whether you chose the light or the dark theme. Stored in your browser as a preference, not transmitted to us and not used to identify you.Until you clear your browser storage, or click the theme button again.

There are no first-party analytics cookies, no advertising cookies set by us, and no cookies from social networks on this site. The pages are served through a content delivery network, which caches the files; caching does not create a profile of you.

Consent where the law requires it

For visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, advertising cookies may only be set with prior consent. In those regions the ad personalization you receive depends on the choice you make in the consent message presented by Google, and declining it means ads are served without personalization.

For readers in the United States, personalized advertising is controlled by the opt-outs listed above rather than by a consent banner.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to know what personal information is collected about you, to obtain a copy, to have it corrected or deleted, to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights — in California these come from the CCPA as amended by the CPRA. Under the GDPR you may also object to or restrict processing and lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising ourselves. Personalization performed by a third-party advertising system is governed by that system's own controls, linked in the advertising section above.

Because there are no accounts here, there is usually nothing about you for us to produce or delete. If you have emailed us, ask and it will be deleted. Send requests to editor@omc.center: we will tell you what we hold — frequently nothing — and act on the request.

Children

This site is written for a general adult audience. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent personal information to us, write to editor@omc.center and we will delete it.

Retention

Hosting logs are short-lived and exist to keep the site reachable and stop abuse. Emails you send us are kept only as long as they are useful and are deleted on request. We keep no reader profiles, because none are built.

Links to other sites

Our articles cite official sources and link out to them, including U.S. government websites. Those sites are operated by other organisations, have their own privacy policies, and are not covered by this one.

Changes to this policy

If the way this network handles data changes, this page changes first and the revision date at the top moves with it. The date is the only version marker we keep, and it always refers to this page.
